POBLACION
Barangay Poblacion is one of the 16 Barangays of the Municipality of Compostela, Davao De Oro (Compostela Valley then), established through Republic Act 2038 signed by the late President Carlos P. Garcia.
As of 2019, the population is 19,915 inhabitants. The household estimate is about 4,523 in which ancestry has been distributed and attributed to various ethnic origins such as: Boholano, Cebuano, Leyteño, Ilonggo, Ilocano, Chino, a few Maranaos, some origins from the Island of Luzon and the indigenous people of the locality the Mandaya. There are 15 Puroks within the barangay.
Although the Barangay is not dominantly agricultural or industrial area, there are however products grown in some areas especially in the peripheral and marginal zone particularly Purok-5 and Purok-13. These products include corn, coconut and banana. On the other hand, mini-packing plants for processing of banana and other produce exist in the barangay.
The Barangay is the hub of economic activity of the Municipality. The sources of income of the people vary. Most of the inhabitants are employees at Banana Plantations operating in the neighboring barangays, while there are number of landowners who are now banana growers. Few are engaged in trade such as buy and sell of agricultural products. Those who are occupying stalls in the Public Market have been operating sari-sari store, selling dry goods and others are selling wet products such as meat, poultry and sea/marine produce.
Key establishments are also present in the Barangay. Banks and other lending institutions are also operating. Cellular Sites for communication are serving the communication needs of the people. Transportation is not also a problem since access to these services are readily available in different modes such as; Public Utility Buses, Tricycles, Single Motorcycles, Multicabs and the pollution-free trisikads and motor cabs which serve as the conveyance of the people within the perimeters of the barangay.
The Vision, Mission and Key Result Area of the Barangay are mainly focused on the programs, projects and activities responsive to the needs of the people. It is in this viewing platform that the barangay has exerted his determination to realize.
Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 22,193. This represented 24.69% of the total population of Compostela.

According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest population in Poblacion is 10 to 14, with 3,040 individuals. Conversely, the age group with the lowest population is 80 and over, with 141 individuals.

Combining age groups together, those aged 14 and below, consisting of the young dependent population which include infants/babies, children and young adolescents/teenagers, make up an aggregate of 33.66% (9,175). Those aged 15 up to 64, roughly, the economically active population and actual or potential members of the work force, constitute a total of 62.84% (17,130). Finally, old dependent population consisting of the senior citizens, those aged 65 and over, total 3.51% (956) in all.
The computed Age Dependency Ratios mean that among the population of Poblacion, there are 54 youth dependents to every 100 of the working age population; there are 6 aged/senior citizens to every 100 of the working population; and overall, there are 59 dependents (young and old-age) to every 100 of the working population.
