BARANGAY MAPACA

Barangay Mapaca is situated seven (7) kilometers from the town proper of Compostela,
Compostela, Comval Province. It is about 30 minutes ride using single motorcycle, from Compostela
town going to Barangay Mapaca, one has to pass the neighboring Barangay, Barangay Bagongon..

Barangay Mapaca traces its history way back 1945. In the same year, MR. PRIMITIVO PALANIA was
the first chieftain of Balangay Mapaca,

Its development was started before World War 11 and it was being known as balangay. The area was still
forest and only inhabitants were the native Mandayas. There are no written records as how to Mapaca gets
its name but respectable residents believed that it was taken from the native word MAPAKA.During the
time , Mandaya’s use bamboo sticks or kawayan as their source of firewood. It is because the area teemed
with bamboo trees. They noticed while they used bamboo sticks as firewood , these produced sounds like
this, pakka,… pakka…. Pak…. It was from these sounds that they opted to name the place Mapaka. To
top it all, the term Mapaca originated the native word Mapaka.

. Through the creation of Pisik Pisik kapunungan, led by PRIMITIVO PALANIA, FELIPE DIEZ, and
associates the chapel was constructed through bayanihan and it was made of bamboo sticks or kawayan
and cogon. It was ruled by a certain missionary. December 16, 1945 was the first fiesta celebration.

In the year (1945-1947) PRIMITIVO PALANIA succeeded by FELIPE DIEZ. The term balangay
changed into baryo to make it Baryo Mapaca.

In the following year,(1957-1960) first Tenyente Del Baryo was JOSE REMORERAS commissioned
by deputy Mayor of Compostela named Mayor PIO GALENZOGA. President DIOSDADO
MACAPAGAL type building has been establish. During the time, the main sources of livelihood were
corn, abaka, and the native rice, called BANIKA.

In the year (1960-1962) SIMON DESABILLE was the second TENYENTE DEL BARIO. Solar drier
of Baryo Mapaca has been established and it was funded by the national government.

The following year (1962-1973) third Tenyente Del Baryo and first called Barangay Captain was
ALBERTO CINTO SR. the term Baryo Mapaca changed into Barangay Mapaca. Year 1969, President
Marcos type building for school and one Nutrition building were established.
The first school in charge was NEMECIO BUDIONGAN.

In the year (1973-1982) MODESTO ESPINOSA was the second Barangay Captain. This was during
the declaration of Martial Law or Batas Militar, under the rule of President Ferdinand Marcos because of
his firm stand to continue being loyal to the Marcos government, he was assassinated by the NPA rebels.
TIMOTEA MIGUE was appointed as the Barangay Captain by the Municipal Mayor SENEN B.
SUAREZ, as a successor of Espinoza’s Administrations. Because of the martial law, the people living in
Barangay Mapaca decided to migrate in order to protect them away from the injustice rule of military.
TIMOTEA MIGUE as an appointed Barangay Captain resigned.

Year 1984, JUAN IGNACIO was appointed as Barangay Captain due to resignation of Office of MRS.
MIGUE. The following year 1985 barangay election TEMOTEA MIGUE was elected as Barangay
Captain due to snap election which resulted to a people power against the Marcos regime.

In the year (1987-1994) ALFREDO MAINIT was elected as the fourth Barangay Captain who
gathered the highest votes of 548. The rest who have votes below 548 are automatically became a
Barangay Kagawad. They are ATANACIO ESPINOZA, RUBEN GONZALES, PEDRO MIGUE, JUAN
IGNACIO, WILFREDO SARMIENTO and ESPIRIDION CABO. Barangay Treasurer was
FRANCISCO LEBADISOS and Barangay Secretary was HELEN GALOLO. During the time, it was the
formulation of an ordinance pertaining to the regular foundation day which falls every 12 th day of June
and it was then approved by the barangay council. Year 1991, it was the opening of Exportable Banana

Plantation. The roads were developed by a company and electrification followed for some portion of
Barangay Mapaca. The Barangay site was surveyed.

In the year (1994-1997) WILFREDO D. SEROT elected as the fifth Barangay Captain during the
election in 1994, with 512 votes against ALFREDO MAINIT with 201 votes. The elected Sangguniang
Barangay members are CLAUDIO SOCIAS, ROBERTO FORMILLES, ALICIA MAINIT, PEDRO
MIGUE, ROMULO SEROT, ROMUALDO BACUS, NOE R. RUBINO. Barangay Secretary was
GLORY JEAN F. SANSANO and the Barangay Treasurer was FRANCISCO LEBADISOS and the
Sangguniang Kabataan was MERCIDITHA ADAO. Year 1995, the following building was been
establish, Pres. Ramos type building (2) rooms, Barangay Hall, Barangay Freedom stage, Day Care
Center and Barangay Reservoir. Year 1997, the total population of people dwelling in this barangay was
1,243.

In the year (1997-2002) it was the second term of WILFREDO D. SEROT as Barangay Captain. Year
1998, Barangay Health Center has been established. Survey revealed that there are 1,389 people settling
in the Barangay.

In the year 2007-2010) HON. MARIO B. DOÑA SR. was elected as the six Punong Barangay
during the election on 2007. The elected Sangguniang Barangay members are HON.GENARO D.
SUAREZ, HON.NIEVES P. CASTILLO, HON. RESTY C. RABADON, HON. ALLAN SANSANO,
HON. ALFREDO MAINIT, HON. WILFREDO SEROT, HON. JONATHAN PORLARES, Barangay
Secretary was, GLERRY S. BESTRE and the Barangay Treasurer was GLORY JEAN SANSANO & the
Sk Chairwoman was KRISTINE H. MUÑEZ.

Now, on this another challenging year of rendering services to the people of the new administration
headed by the recently elected Punong Barangay, HON. RESTY C. RABADON, Barangay Mapaca,
will leap to its greater heights of development. On his first term of service (2010-2013) together with the
fresh but proficient and brilliant Legislative body, HON. GENARO D. SUAREZ, HON. REY F. CABO,
HON. NILDA O. MIGUE, HON. JESSIE D. DESABILLE, HON. NOE R. RUBINO, HON. ROY A.
VERGARA, HON. RUEL R. BAREJA, & HON. MIE B. SUAREZ- SK CHAIRWOMAN & Barangay
Secretary MIRAFLOR S. VALDEZ – Barangay Treasurer NIEVES P. CASTILLO.
Barangay Mapaca being the center of agri- industrialization here in Municipality of Compostela will truly
strive to its realistic and sustainable development.

In the year (2013- 2016 ) it was the second term of HON. RESTY C. RABADON as Barangay Captain.
With a newly set of Barangay Kagawad: HON. GENARO D. SUAREZ, HON. JESSIE D. DESABILLE,
HON. REY F. CABO, HON. RUEL R. BAREJA, HON. NENITO D. JUIT , HON. NEO R. RUBINO &
HON. RODERIC LISBOS – Barangay Secretary MIRAFLOR S. VALDEZ – Barangay Treasurer
NIEVES P. CASTILLO.

Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 2,281. This represented 2.54% of the total population of Compostela.

Mapaca is situated at approximately 7.7177, 126.0475, in the island of Mindanao. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 98.6 meters or 323.5 feet above mean sea level.
