In the effort of empowering the "ilaw ng tahanan", it is necessary to create an enabling environment where women can genuinely express their minds and participate in the affairs of society, especially in decision-making, that is free from threat, force or intimidation.

In a culture, which has historical roots of being patriarchal, it was hard and challenging for the women sector to express themselves and enjoy the privilege of self-determination.

However, with the advent of women empowerment and advocacy toward assertion of women rights and welfare, society has gradually and consistently accepted the role of women in development, governance, leadership and nation-building.

Advancing for the furtherance of women's cause, local governments have been responsive and provide venue for opportunity by organizing and mobilizing the sector, once marginalized and vulnerable, through the council of Women.

By setting aside a day for women, the 69th Araw ng Compostela and 11th Buganihan Festival has became a gender-fair and GAD-sensitive founding anniversary celebration.

Women from all of the 16 barangays of Compostela converge in one venue and collectively expressed themselves in different contest, programs and knowledge-sharing. Present during the event, along with Mayor Bolo, was Joanna Gentugaya, a provincial Board Member and wife of Monkayo mayor Ramil Lao Gentugaya.

In thoughts and in deeds, the participants of the event, with pride and jubilation, the women of the town surely have all the intents to express ---"Compostela Love Ko...Padayon sa Paglambo".
